THE MINISTRY OF MUSIC - Using God-given gifts, those called to be in the choir at St Johns, and the organists, make an offering to God alone of their talents, exercising this Ministry, as with all ministries, for the edification and building up of the Church. St John's Parish values traditional styles of worship with challenging and informed preaching, and fine music from choir, congregation and organists. If you are interested in membership -and people will travel across the harbour bridge from the CBD to join in - email (or phone 418 2347) the Music Director gjlander@clear.net.nz In order to not burden people too much the choir sings only on Third Sundays and at special services but rehearses weekly. We welcome sopranos, altos, tenors and basses - and will not require an audition - you just need to sing in tune, and be able to keep up with us. The choir is a chamber group, (maximum 20 voices) and sings challenging, quality liturgical music to a high level of performance once or twice a month. We prefer to do this instead of the usual boring routine of easy music each week. We have quite some talent among our numbers - Dorians, Bach Musica, Choral Soc, Sweet Adelines, Sister Mary Leo et al So, if you are interested and can keep up and in tune, you're in - and we'll just winkle the music out of you and work miracles! Rehearsals each Thurdsay at 7.30pm are high comedy and much more fun than watching TV..... Each year we have various social events just for the members too. A warm and supportive group. And - if your parish is in the Auckland Diocese and you might like us to visit to sing a service (say for a Patronal Festival), get in touch and we'll plan ahead for that. SUPPORTERS: |
